Question asked by dre: I have a question for Waddy. On the Warren Zevon album "Mr. Bad Example, that Waddy produced and played on, there is a solo on the track "Heartache spoken here". The first half of the solo is guitar and the second half sounds like pedal steel. It's an amazing solo, but I've never been sure if it's guitar on the second half of the solo or pedal steel..... Can you ask Waddy if he remembers? Thank you, dre Waddy's answer: dre, so glad u asked about that solo....it's one of the favorite ones i've ever done... i don't mean to sound like i'm bragging, but your reaction is exactly what i was trying to achieve....it does sound like a strange pedal steel ... actually it's 3 tracks of the same fender telecaster that plays the first half of the solo... one of the things i've always loved about working w/ warren and jackson too for that matter....on "Excitable Boy" the LP...i was given the freedom to try things i'd always wanted to try...guitar wise...and one of those things was to use multiple tracks to play a solo...the first time i did this is on"Johnny Strikes Up The Band"..if u notice, the first solo and the second for that matter, both start with 3 different phrases on 3 tracks and then the 3rd track just continues playing the rest of the solo... it's also on "Finishing Touches"....that solo keeps winding between the 3 tracks, but, as i started this reply with......."Heartache Spoken Here" is the one i'm happiest with because it kept going on all three tracks all the way to the end and wound up sounding like ...some kinda outrageous yet wrong steel guitar... i usually plan the opening lick or two and then just let it develop...that one developed way better than i had hoped !! had no idea it was gonna work that well. thanks dre.... so happy you noticed!! best atcha, waddy "Grand Canyon" Movie and Soundtrack 1992 Movie: 20th Century Fox Credits (partial): Danny Glover Kevin Kline Steve Martin Mary McDonnell Mary-Louise Parker Lawrence Kasdan - Director Lawrence Kasdan, Meg Kasdan- Writers Album: Milan Records Tracks: 1. Marinell, Waddy Wachtel, Warren Zevon I called up my friend LeRoy on the phone I said, Buddy, I'm afraid to be alone 'Cause I got some weird ideas in my head About things to do in Denver when you're dead I was working on a steak the other day And I saw Waddy in the Rattlesnake Cafe Dressed in black, tossing back a shot of rye Finding things to do in Denver when you die You won't need a cab to find a priest Maybe you should find a place to stay Some place where they never change the sheets And you just roll around Denver all day LeRoy says there's something you should know Not everybody has a place to go And home is just a place to hang your head And dream of things to do in Denver when you're dead You won't need a cab to find a priest Maybe you should find a place to stay Some place where they never change the sheets And you just roll around Denver all day You just roll around Denver all day | Late Night | Warren Zevon 9 | Warren Zevon 10 | | Big Sky | Sarah Brightman | Bon Jovi | The Church 3 | Bob Dylan | Hall and Oates | Willi Jones | Iggy Pop | Cry Baby | Circle of Soul | Vinnie James | Will T.
