Reviews and News - August 2009 Review and photos from August 24, 2009 Note from Nina: We had great music and a great crowd at the Waddy Wachtel Band gig last night 8/10/09 at The Joint. So many beautiful smiles comin’ from everyone it was almost blinding! Rock ‘n’ Roll at it’s finest. Yes! Next gig: Waddy Wachtel Band August 24, 2009 The Joint, 8771 W. Pico, Los Angeles, CA 90035 Doors open 9PM First Set about 10PM $10 gets you rocked real good Some highlights from last night: Waddy Wachtel delighted everyone by singing his old friend Warren Zevon’s song “Lawyers Guns and Money.” Besides being an incredible guitarist, Waddy has a fantastic voice - and with lots of energy. And..... there was only Waddy, Phil Jones (drums) and Al Ortiz (bass) on stage for that one. Power trio! Another tune Waddy wailed on (Well, he wails on all of them) was his exceptional guitar solo on “Rover” (Led Zep). Got all our hearts tingling! Bernard Fowler got us all hot with his stinging vocals when the band surprised us with a tune they haven’t played for a while - the Rolling Stones’ “She Was Hot.” And he was HOT........ all through the night. Everyone loves his rendition of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” “Just for one day”....... Monday!!!! Jamie Savko awed all of us once again with his amazing vocals when he started out the first set with Zep’s “Immigrant Song,” then after band intros got us into Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole.” And he had us all burnin’ when he sang AC/DC’s “Shot Down In Flames” in the second set. We were in flames with him. Phil Jones banged the drums through it all - his dancin’ hands always give us dancin’ feet. If they had a TV show called “Stump the Drummer”, Phil would always win hands down! Never can stump him. Keith Allison introduced his second tune by saying “Here’s one of my favorite Elvis tunes.” No, not “Hound Dog.” The other Elvis - Costello’s “Pump It Up.” He sure did pump it up! Al Ortiz flies in from Phoeix to play bass with the band when Rick Rosas isn’t available, and Al not only has lightning fingers on those bass strings, but his vocal harmonies blend perfectly on all the tunes he sings on. Waddy knew Al was someone special when he first played with him with Stevie Nicks - and we’re so lucky to have him join WWB on that stage. Set List: First Set: 1.
