![]() Reviews and News - November 2007 Hi Rockers- I'm still trying to catch my breath after last night's fantastic gig at the Joint by the Waddy Wachtel Band. So..... This is going to be a short review. I'd have to say the favorite song of the night was "Won't Get Fooled Again". The band just falls right into the energy of that song, and no one in the place can keep still - lots of hoots of appreciation from everyone. It was also a special treat to have Waddy sing his own song "High Maintenance Girlfriend." And Waddy's guitar solo on "Eight Miles High" made us all high. Waddy was running around all week doing assorted musical stuff, but when he hits the stage at the Joint the fire flies - truly Rockin' It for all of us. Brett Tuggle, Phil Jones, Jamie Savko and Al Ortiz were also on fire. We're so lucky to have performers of their caliber burnin' for us on Monday nights. You just won't be able to see guys who've been recognized and employed by some of the top names in the music world "Come Together" and put on a show like this. Al flies in from Phoenix every Monday just to thrill us and play with his buddies. Lots of Rockin' love going around! And we all feel it. I'd have to call last night Audience Appreciation Night. Despite the dense fog here in L.A., everyone came to the "Misty Mountain Hop" and rocked their socks off. So many smiling faces in the crowd I had to take pics of them. You can see all of us having fun with the band in this week's slide show (below). And the band felt it as well - talking to all of us and sharing their big warm smiles. Oh, it was delightfully warm! Yeah! So, after you've digested all that leftover turkey, come on down and start the Holidays with us! Ain't no Rockin' like Rockin It with WWB. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and remember to give thanks for "Rock 'n' Roll." I thank you - WWB thanks you - Rockers keep the spirit alive! ![]() Review by Nina: It was so nice seeing some new faces at the Joint last night - WWB virgins. Each and every one of them has now been happily taken down the road of exceptional Rockin' bliss. You should have seen the big smiles on their faces when Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Brett Tuggle, Jamie Savko and Al Ortiz plugged in and played the first song of the night. But it was no quickie. The enjoyment just kept increasing with every song till everyone was up dancing and flashing their smiles around the whole room. Ooooooh...... Was it hot! The highlight of the night was when the band introduced a new song they hadn't played before: "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who. After hearing them play that song, it's for sure no one will get fooled again - the Joint is the place to be on Monday nights. I love that song - wore out that Who cassette by playing it so much. Jamie was fantastic on vocals, Waddy slipped in a superbly creative guitar solo, and Brett had the keyboard parts down pat. George (the sound man) panned the keyboard solo back and forth from left to right in the speakers, and it sounded sooooo good. Phil and Al were right "In Tune" (had to slip in that Who reference), and they all had the song down pat after only rehearsing it for a couple of times before the show. And that song has lots of changes in it! Well, that's one reason I'm always saying how great the Waddy Wachtel Band is! Waddy was all over that stage, not just jumping and letting his hair fly, but cranking out some of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. Brett wails on keyboards, then jumps out to join Waddy with guitars blazing. Jamie walks humbly out, takes the mike in his hand, and proceeds to hits notes that don't seem humanly possible. Phil has a fan blowing his hair as he turns into a blasting Rock Drummer. Al stands comfortably in the background, bass guitar slung in front of him, then rumbles the place with his solid riffs. More excitement and pleasure than anyone could hope for! Wadddy always introduces the band members in each set, and it was a special treat when he gave kudos (props) to the other people who make the gig happen so smoothly. John - guitar tech / Charlie - equipment manager / Jorge - sound and lights / Dave and Cinnamon - behind the bar / Barry - greeter and door man. WWB has an incredible bunch of people working with them. Big bows and appreciation to all of them.
