Reviews and News - May 2008 Note from Nina: Everybody was sure into partying last night 5/5/08 at The Joint when the Waddy Wachtel Band hit the stage. They opened the night with the Stones' "Bitch", and electrified everyone. Now, that's Rock 'n' Roll!!! And they kept rockin' it up for us all night. Maybe the Cinco de Mayo vibe was working some magic, but I think it was just another incredible show by the band that got everyone in such a smiling good mood. Not only were we dancin', but some of the regulars got into singing harmonies from the audience. Fun for all. Every song was done perfectly, and we can't thank Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Rick Rosas, Brett Tuggle and Jamie Savko enough for thrilling and delighting us on Monday nights. Woo Hoo!!! It's gonna make my whole week shine. Blondie Chaplin (background singer for the Rolling Stones) got on stage with the band to sing lead vocals on Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns and Money", and kept shooting back up there grabbing a tambourine and adding harmonies to some other songs as well. Keith Allison returned to sing some wonderful tunes and blow that harp of his - always a pleasure to have Keith pumpin' it up up there. Barry Robinson (WWB's doorman and assistant) sang the low parts on AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" - giving everyone big smiles. I'm still glowing, but once again don't have words good enough to tell you what the music sounded like. You gotta see and hear these guys to get your own tingles. And you will! Yay! See you next Monday 5/12......... If you're not afraid of loud, incredible Rock 'n' Roll! Note from Nina: Hi Rockers...... It was a bit chilly here in L.A. yesterday - overcast and sweater weather. So we all ran to The Joint last night, where we KNEW we'd get heated up! When the Waddy Wachtel Band got up on the stage and opened the night with "Rocks Off", we all took our jackets off....... Yeah, they burned up the place instantly!!!!! Our guys......... Waddy Wachtel - Lead Guitar, Vocals Phil Jones - Drums Rick Rosas - Bass Brett Tuggle - Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals Jamie Savko - Vocals ......... never let us down. Whatever might be ailing you, they get your energy pumpin' and wash away anything but Rockin' and Rollin' electric ecstasy. Yeah..... I said ecstasy! Okay. We had some visitors in the audience last night who came all the way from England. A delightful couple - Allan and Elaine. True rockers! Allan told Waddy he'd seen him in '76 in England on the Linda Ronstadt tour. Waddy said he remembered the Glasgow show very well. There were big nets up on the stage between them and the audience. The band went WTF? Then they found out...... Seems like the Glaswegian concert-goers showed their appreciation for the music by throwing stuff at the stage...... Lots of stuff! Another thing Waddy told us was that's the night he met Keith Richards. I love Waddy's stories. We're gonna have a great time next Monday night 5/19. I hope those of you in the area will come and celebrate the 8 year anniversary of WWB playing Monday nights at The Joint. And don't forget Waddy's birthday celebration on 5/26. We were gonna make it a surprise party, but couldn't figure out how to do that. LOL Sorry for boo-hoo news, but WWB won't be at The Joint in June, since Waddy is being called to do some dates on the East Coast with Stevie Nicks. Rockin' love..... ...to all the wonderful people who came to party with us last night. ...to all the incredibly talented musicians in WWB and the special guests who show up. ...to all of you who want to come but can't. See you next Monday!!!!!!!! Notes by Nina: What a fantastic celebration we had last night for the anniversary of the Waddy Wachtel Band playing on Monday nights at The Joint....... for 8 years! Waddy kept saying it's hard to believe it's been 8 years, and I agree. Having this much Rock 'n' Roll delight on such a regular basis? Oh yeah....... We're all so very lucky. It was great seeing so many "regulars" show up and finding so many "newbies" in the audience. Big smiles all around..... From the guys in the band and everyone watching, dancing, and cheering. Yahoo!!!!! Don't worry if you're a "newbie" WWB addict..... We'll be Rockin' It Up for 8 more years..... And hopefully even longer. As long as everyone keeps showing up and asking for more, WWB will be glad to provide..... Ecstasy for all! WWB played 2 new songs last night - "I Need To Know" (Tom Petty) and "Jail Break" (Thin Lizzy). Listening to them, you'd never know it was the first time they'd played those songs together. How many times can I use the word "perfect" about WWB's playing? A gazillion! Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Rick Rosas, Brett Tuggle and Jamie Savko never cease to amaze. Bernard Fowler is always warmly greeted by band and crowd alike. It was like a Foto Fest last night. Lots of people taking pictures, and I even managed to take a bunch myself. We gotta memorialize the celebration. Check out the photos below. We're gonna celebrate Waddy's Birthday. How happy are we that he was born? VERRRRRY!!! Get there early, as we expect a huge crowd. You had the day off for Memorial Day..... So put on your dancin' shoes (or your high heel sneakers) and get your "Rocks Off" with us. Don't miss the 5/26 gig, dudes and dudettes, as Waddy will be gone the whole month of June...... Stevie Nicks is stealing him from us for some concerts. Warm Rockin' Love- Click on any photo to enlarge........ Note from Nina: Need I tell you all that the Waddy Wachtel Band burned and rocked the roof off at The Joint last night? Okay, I will.......... They burned BIG time and rocked all of us. I'm still tingling. It was a great birthday celebration for Waddy Wachtel. All the guys in the band were smiling from ear to ear, filling the place with rockin' energy, and playing their asses off. Phew! And they make it look so easy........... That's because they're true professionals and really love what they're doing. Delighted smiles on everyone at The Joint last night. Waddy reminded us that Saturday 5/24 was not only his B-Day, but Bob Dylan's as well. Then he sang 2 Dylan tunes last night - "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Just Like A Woman". His voice is so fantastic on those songs! What a treat. His guitar playing and solos always cause everyone to tingle, and he brought out his Parker guitar to use on "Street Fighting Man" - great tones. I don't know anyone else who can play straight through his amps without a ton of effects and make every note come out so perfectly. Fingers sliding all over the guitar and blasting out electricity. Giving many thanks for Waddy's B-Day - so glad he was born and is here to delight all of us. Thank you, Waddy!!!!! Brett Tuggle started out the night for us with blazing keyboards and vocals on "I Am The Walrus". He got us moving and didn't stop for a second. Thank you, Brett! Phil Jones doesn't miss a beat on those drums. Anyone who wants to learn to play real rockin' drums has to check out Phil - and then try to keep up with his energy! Thank you, Phil! Jamie Savko proved once again that his voice can send shivers down your spine. Whether it's an AC/DC tune or one by the Stones or Led Zep...... Bring it on and Jamie will nail it. Thank you, Jamie! Al Ortiz delighted us all by flying in from Phoenix to play bass at this gig. It was a special treat to have him up there with the band again plucking thunder from those strings. Thank you, Al! Bernard Fowler takes that mic in his hands and really electrifies everyone with his vocals and stage presence. He kills on the Stones tunes, and definitely gets everyone clapping along when he sings "Sin City". Thank you, Bernard!
