Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 3/23/09

Notes from Nina:

The wind had been blowing everything around here in Los Angeles for a few days, but when the Waddy Wachtel Band hit the stage last night 3/23/09 at The Joint - all hell broke loose! That's the kind of rockin' wind we always love to be blown over by.

It was great to have the band back again after a few weeks, and everyone was ready to rock the roof off. And we did! The band was on fire - tight, mean and lean - giving 1000%.

Waddy Wachtel is such a great treasure. He not only keeps these gigs at The Joint going with an incredible bevy of performers and tunes, but he blasts through every tune on his guitar with electrifying force, wails through lead vocals and harmonies, and gives support and kudos to everyone who's up there with him. He also pleased us by singing one of his own compositions: "High Maintenance Girlfriend," and there were a few people in the audience singing harmonies along with him on that tune including Ellen Anderson and Greg Bell. And..... Waddy always makes us know we "got nothin' to lose" when he sings "Like A Rolling Stone." Are we lovin' it? Oh yeah!

Jamie Savko not only brought new meaning to Rockin' Vocals in all the tunes he sang, but he blew us all away on "Highway To Hell." He was on fire! Everyone was wide-eyed and asking: "Who IS that guy?" He's OUR Jamie! Lovin it.

Phil Jones is like the Energizer Bunny on drums. Once you turn him on..... he never stops! And we don't want him to. He's always there right on the beat adding so much to every tune...... With big smiles like there's no place else he'd rather be. Lovin' the drummin'.

Rick Rosas not only provides the basic essentials any great bass player must contribute to a band, but he uses his bass to fill in on riffs that make WWB a true Power Trio when it's only Waddy, Phil and Rick up there. No simple playing for Rick..... His fingers can move light lightning on those strings. Lovin' the lightnin'.

Keith Allison walks humbly on stage with a sly grin, then blasts through vocals and rhythm guitar, so no one can keep their feet from moving. Only Keith can do those tunes with such rockin' energy that everyone gets movin'. Lovin' the movin'.

Special guests......

P. F. Sloan was a surprise guest last night, and what a treat that was. He performed the song he wrote - "Eve Of Destruction" - with such delightful force and emotion! We have to thank Frank Howsen (a long-time friend of WWB and extremely talented person) for suggesting to Sloan that he might want to come down and sit in. nd Sloan was lovin' it! Lovin' the destructin'.

Jason Sinay sang and played guitar on "Like A Hurricane" - which not only reminded us of the blastin' winds we've been having here, but of how delightful Jason's vocals are. Lovin' the blastin' hurricane.

Here's the set list for the night, with notes fo who else was on stage with Waddy, Phil and Rick. Photos are below.

Note from Nina:

I heard on the news yesterday that there's a 1 in 100 chance there'll be an earthquake on the San Andreas fault in the next few days. Hold on!!!!

I know for a fact that there's a 1 in 1 chance the earth will move when the Waddy Wachtel Band is at The Joint on a Monday night. That must have been the earthquake they were referring to....... because there was definitely some burnin' rockin' and rollin' by WWB last night 3/30/09.
