Reviews and News - July 2008 Note from Nina: 1st NEWS FLASH..... Yes, we had an earthquake in L.A. this morning. Well, this IS California! Not to worry..... we're all fine. As Donna said, "Yeah, I felt the aftershock from last night." LOL With all the gooood rockin' and rollin' on a Monday night with the Waddy Wachtel Band, a little earthquake can't get us shakin' the way they do. And we like it! 2rd NEWS FLASH........ Waddy Wachtel was back on the stage after being gone for 2 months, and there wasn't one person at the gig who didn't wanna scream out: "We love you and missed you, Waddy!" Damn, that guy can rock us to levels no one else can. Always 1000% coming from him. Guitar, vocals, song selections........ All meant to thrill us..... and he always does!!!!! Phil Jones is as solid a drummer as there is. Always with a big smile and lightning fast sticks. I don't think there's a tune he can't wail on. Rick Rosas sailed through the bass parts. No wonder Neil Young takes him on all his tours. Unfortunately for us, Rick will be going out again next month with Neil on another European tour, but we were lucky to have him with us last night. Brett Tuggle is another performer who won't give less than 1000%. Whether he's playing keys or guitar / singing lead or harmony vocals..... he mesmerizes and amazes everyone. Extremely talented dude! Jamie Savko is one of the finest rock singers around. He can comfortably blend harmonies with the other guys or take center stage and wail out with a voice that makes people's mouths drop open and say, "Wow..... wow..... WOW!" We were also treated with some vocals by Bernard Fowler and Blondie Chaplin last night. No wonder the Stones take them out as background singers..... and they can take center stage at our little club and delight everyone. As always, it's a special treat when Keith Allison gets up there with his guitar and harp and blows the roof off. Too many great performers on one little stage? Nope! It's like getting 10 concerts rolled into 2 delicious sets. We all had a great time last night - audience and players. No one could sit or stand still! There was a delightful explosion coming from that stage and we all FELT IT! It's great having so many new people showing up at the gigs and getting their minds blown by WWB. I love it! And all our old friends are there ready to say, "More, please!" Set List: 1st Set: "Till The End Of The Day" (Kinks) Brett Tuggle lead vocals "Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie Savko lead vocals "Rocks Off" (Rolling Stones) Waddy Wachtel and Jamie vocals "Jail Break" (Thin Lizzy) Bernard Fowler lead vocals "I Need To Know" (Tom Petty) Bernard lead vocals "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (Warren Zevon) Keith Allison lead vocals "Pump It Up" (Elvis Costello) Keith lead vocals "A Change Is Gonna Come" (Sam Cooke) Blondie Chaplin lead vocals "I Am The Walrus" (Beatles) Brett lead vocals 2nd Set: "All Down The Line" (Rolling Stones) Jamie lead vocals "Misty Mountain Hop" (Led Zep) Jamie and Brett vocals "Revolution" (Beatles) Brett lead vocals "Street Fightin' Man" (Rolling Stones) Bernard and Blondie vocals "Heroes" (David Bowie) Bernard lead vocals "Just Like a Woman" (Bob Dylan) Waddy lead vocals "Lawyers Guns and Money" (Warren Zevon) Blondie lead vocals "Honky Tonk Women" (Rolling Stones) Bernard and Blondie vocals "Eight Miles High" (Byrds) Waddy, Brett, and Jamie harmony vocals 3th NEWS FLASH.......... The Waddy Wachtel Band will be back at The Joint next Monday 8/4!!!!!!!! Al Ortiz, who plays bass with Waddy and Stevie Nicks on albums and tours, will be sitting in for Rick Rosas. Al's been with us many times in the past, and it's a real pleasure to have him back - thundering on that bass. So.......... If you've been to see WWB before, I know you're gonna want to make plans to be back with us this Monday. And if you haven't heard them yet...... WTF are you waiting for? Come on down, get a tall cold one, say hi to me, and enjoy some of the best music you'll ever hear. Warning: Your heart will be pumpin' and your feet will start jumpin'. And we'll all be doing it together! See you there.......
