Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint 7/23/07

Review by Nina:

Let's see...... There was something different Monday night that made it a little more special. Hmmmmmm... If I could only remember...... Tee Hee. BRETT'S BACK! It was so great to have Brett Tuggle back on stage at the Joint with the Waddy Wachtel Band again. He was really missed, and his talent and energy flowed through all of us. His burning vocals, as well as his incredible playing of keyboards and guitar really rocked the roof off. What a deeeeelight!

We had another special guest appear on the stage Monday night. Phil Jones kindly gave up his drum throne to Joe Vitale for 2 songs. Joe Vitale just got off tour with Steven Stills and has played live and recorded with some top artists, like Joe Walsh and a ton of others. Check out his MySpace page and web site for more about Joe. What a treat!

What about the rest of the guys in the band? Well, they were adequate. LOL I just can't heap enough praise on Waddy Wachtel, Jamie Savko, Phil Jones and Rick Rosas. When they rock - they ROCK - and they always ROCK! Waddy totally got down with his guitar solos and vocals. Makes this girl very happy! Jamie let loose on all the songs he sang, earning the renowned title of Jamie "Bon" Savko. What a voice! Phil continues to amaze and Rick is as solid as a rock.

I've got a special treat for those of you who couldn't make it to the gig Monday night (those of you who are out of town, poor things!). I've added a slide show of some photos I took Monday night - it's at the bottom of this page under the set list.

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint 7/16/07

Review by Nina:

What a great reunion it was last night at the Joint welcoming Waddy Wachtel and the other guys back after being away for 2 months. It was a warm night and the music was HOT! The band and the audience were fired up for ROCK, and we sure did!

Waddy fell right back into playing the hottest solos while leading the band through some exciting songs. Always with a big smile on his face, he told us how strange it felt to not be at the Joint on a Monday night Oh yeah - we all felt the same. Jamie Savko just keeps getting better (like that would even be possible - he's so good), and it was a real treat to hear him sing so many hot songs last night, The guy definitely has magic. Phil Jones just wails on those drums, and I can't imagine anyone else being able to play so hot for so long - following Waddy's lead and smiling with complete bliss while he's doing it. Angus Thomas sat in on bass with the band, as he's done for the last 6 years at the Joint when Rick Rosas isn't there. He's such a professional, he picked up the new songs he hadn't rehearsed with the band before and sailed right through them. Jason Sinay joined the band once again while Brett Tuggle's still away. He and Waddy shared some guitar solos and he also shared his voice on many of the tunes. Always nice to have Jason up there.

Dave had some new hardwood floors installed, and the place looks fantastic. Most of the regulars and some newbies showed up last night. They were all awed and inspired by the music - not to mention rockin' their asses off. Welcome to some new fans I met last night: Kila, Jackie, Jeremy and Jimmy James. I KNOW they'll be back. One great thing about the Joint on Monday night (besides the best music in town) is the fantastic people who show up there - all so beautiful, with big smiles and lovin' every minute of it. What a great bunch!

Here's the set list:

1st set:
"Jumpin Jack Flash" (Stones) Waddy Wachtel lead vocals (What a great way to start off the night!)
"Shot Down in Flames" (AC/DC) Jamie Savko lead vocals
"Rover" (Led Zep) Jamie lead vocals
"Powder Finger" (Neil Young) Jason Sinay lead vocals
"Shook Me All Night Long" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"Stop Breakin' Down" (Robert Johnson) Keith Allison lead vocals
"Somethin Else" (Eddie Cochran) Keith lead vocals
"Bitch" (Stones) Jamie lead vocals
"Like a Hurricane" (Neil Young) Jason lead vocals

2nd set:
"Eight Miles High" (Byrds) Waddy and Jamie vocals
"Monkey Man" (Stones) Jason lead vocals
"All Down the Line" (Stones) Jamie lead vocals
"Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" (Neil Young) Jason lead vocals
"Pump it Up" (Elvis Costello) Keith lead vocals
"C'mon Everybody" (Eddie Cochran) Keith lead vocals
"Lawyers, Guns and Money" (Warren Zevon) Waddy lead vocals
"Sin City" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals

I know those of you who were there felt all that energy blasting through the room. For those of you who couldn't make it, I hope I managed to send some of that energy your way with my words.

Next week 7/23 Brett Tuggle and Rick Rosas will be back in their proper positions on stage - ready to lift us to the rafters and rock us once we get there. I hope all of you can make it for Brett's reunion with the band after his loooong Lindsey Buckingham tour. Yeah, he'll be our "Live Wire."

See ya all next Monday! :-D

Waddy's back!!!!!!!! - 7/08/07

Are you ready to ROCK?

The Waddy Wachtel Band will be back at the Joint on Monday 7/16. I can't wait to see them again........ it's been tooooo long since I've heard their loud lovin' ROCK.

Waddy will be joined on the 16th by Phil Jones (drums), Jamie Savko (vocals), Angus Thomas (bass) and Jason Sinay (guitar, vocals).

I know Waddy's rarin' to get back up on the Joint stage and play loud, fast and long for us. He never lets us down, screaming through those guitar solos and singing so soulfully. Phil will be pounding those skins like lightning. When Jamie hits the stage, whether he's singing soft background harmonies or letting loose on sustained rock vocals - his voice is a wonderful thrill to listen to. It'll be so nice to have Angus back with the band again for a night - he always adds such a brightness to the stage with his pounding bass riffs. And it's a delight to have Jason with the band again, playing such melodious guitar and offering up some vocals of his own.

I know you all have been waiting for their return, like I have. Come on down to the Joint on the 16th and have fun with the rest of us. We've got to break in the club's new hardwood floor.

See ya all there!
-Nina
