Reviews and News - February 2009 Review, Video and Photos 2/6/09 Review and Video 2/16/09 Review 2/23/09 Note from Nina: It was so great being together again rockin' things up at The Joint for the second time this week..... especially since the Waddy Wachtel Band has missed a few Monday nights in the past months. And what a night it was! Always the best tunes performed by incredible artists. And.... we had a special guest join the band for one song. Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top) was standing in the back of the room enjoying the show, and then he was up there with his guitar singing "Hey Baby" with the guys. I'd never heard that song before, so I had to look it up. It was written by Derek T. Holmes and when Ted Nugent recorded it, it hit No. 26 in the carts. Billy had a great time singing and playing his guitar, and everyone was totally thrilled by his performance. What a nice and talented guy! Billy and Waddy traded off on guitar licks on the tune with Blondie, Phil and Rick keeping up the bluesy beat. Very cool! Check the slide show below for photos I took of them. Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Phil Jones (drums) and Rick Rosas (bass) played as a powerful trio on both sets, and I've made notes in the Set List about who else was on stage doing their thing last night. Oh yeah...... We all had a wonderful time! It's nice seeing other musicians show up on Mondays as well - enjoying the music along with us. Great vibes! I posted so many pics for you from Friday night's gig - and the video - that I wasn't going to take more of them last night, but I HAD to memorialize Billy Gibbons with WWB. So.... Check the slide show below for those pics and see the big smiles. Set List: 1st Set: 1. "Bitch" (Rolling Stones) Jamie Savko lead vocals; Waddy Wachtel harmony vocals 2. See you next Monday!!!!!!!! Click any photo to enlarge........ Note from Nina: "There is nothing to it. You only have to hit the right notes at the right time and the instrument plays itself." -Johann Sebastian Bach With all due respect to the great composer, Bach, I wonder if he'd change his mind after seeing what the Waddy Wachtel Band does with their instruments.... and voices. Yes... Waddy, Phil, Rick, Bernard, Jamie and Blondie hit all the right notes at the right time - but they also take the music way beyond that. They add so much heart and soul to the music that I know if Bach heard it he'd be rockin' along with the rest of us!!!!!! Absolutely fantastic music laid out by the band last night. Not a missed note anywhere. Waddy was on fire with his guitar - incredible solos with those lightning fingers. Bernard sings to us with such passion that he takes us away with him. Phil sets down a drum beat that gets our hearts pumping along with him. Rick thumps that bass like he's playing a solo. Jamie's voice hits registers so high and clear that it's almost heavenly. Blondie plays with his voice like it's an instrument we've never heard before, and he played a great guitar solo on "Beast of Burden." Yup...... We got everything we could possibly wish for. I'm sorry if the cold and rain prevented some of you from coming to the gig last night, but in The Joint the temperature was blazing! It was great seeing all of you who did come to the gig, and the guys in the band send their love to all of you. And you'd all better be back next Monday 2/23/09 for more delights. Just get your asses down to The Joint next Monday and FEEL it with all of us!!!!!! "Beast of Burden" Note from Nina: It was great seeing all of you WWB Rockers at The Joint last night 2/23/09. For those of you who couldn't make it (and you'd better have an excuse note! :-) ) here are some highlights. When we arrived at the club, we came in on the tail end of a private wrap party for some movie. They were a nice bunch of people, but we had to weave our way through the crowd in search of each other. The biggest bummer about having that wrap party going on was that WWB didn't get to do a sound check - not that they needed it, but we missed out on hearing a few tunes before they started their first set. And then....... the music began! Ahhhh!!!! The people who remained from the party were dancing and smiling along with us. Of course! Waddy Wachel, Phil Jones, Rick Rosas, Bernard Fowler and Blondie Chaplin broke right into "You Got Me Rockin' "....... and they sure did get us rockin' right from the get-go. And it didn't let up a bit - just kept getting hotter with burnin' rock 'n' roll as Jamie Savko and Keith Allison performed their songs. Such an incredible blend of voices and instruments up there! But then those of you who've witnessed WWB KNOW that, huh? A deeeelightful night had by all. Waddy and Bernard thanked us all for coming, telling us we're the best audience - and we are! Only the best for our guys...... Cause they're the best!!!!!! Set List: 1st Set: 1- "You Got Me Rockin'" (Rolling Stones) Bernard Fowler lead vocals; Blondie Chaplin and Waddy Wachtel harmony vocals 2- "Going to a Go-Go" (The Miracles) Bernard lead vocals; Waddy and Blondie harmony vocals 3- "Substitute" (The Who) Jamie Savko lead vocals; Waddy and Bernard harmony vocals 4- "All Down The Line" (Rolling Stones) Jamie lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals 5- "Lawyers Guns and Money" (Warren Zevon) Blondie lead vocals 6- "Up On Cripple Creek" (The Band) Keith Allison lead vocals 7- "Somethin' Else" (Eddie Cochran) Keith lead vocals 8- "Shot Down in Flames" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals 9- "Jail Break" (Thin Lizzy) Bernard lead vocals; Jamie harmony vocals 2nd Set: 1- "Suffragette City" (David Bowie) Bernard lead vocals; Jamie harmony vocals 2- "She's So Cold" (Rolling Stones) Bernard lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals 3- "Eight Miles High" (The Byrds) Waddy and Jamie harmony vocals 4- "Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals; Waddy harmony vocals 5- "Like a Rolling Stone" (Bob Dylan) Waddy lead vocals; Blondie harmony vocals 6- "C'Mon Everybody" (Eddie Cochran) Keith lead vocals 7- "Instant Karma" (John Lennon) Bernard, Blondie and Waddy vocals 8- "Sin City" (AC/DC) Bernard lead vocals; Blondie harmony vocals Other news: It looks like no gig for next Monday 3/2/09.
