 Reviews and News - August 18, 2018 Note from Nina: It was a great night of rockin’ and rollin’ with the Waddy Wachtel Band Saturday night 8/18/18 at Discovery Ventura in Ventura, CA! The guys were happy to see so many of you there with smiling faces and clapping hands - and joining in on harmony vocals on some songs. Some of us traveled a distance to Ventura, but it was well worth the drive - everyone said so. If you couldn’t be there in person (bummer), we hope you got to see the live stream of the show on the Alert the Globe web site. We were all waiting with anticipation, then clapped and yelled greetings when the band came on stage. They were eager to please - and they sure did! Before I get into the songs and vocalists, I have to say that Waddy tore up the place all night with his impeccable guitar playing and solos. Wow! Lucky us to be so close to him and watch his fingers dance on that guitar. Phil Jones had a new drum set, and whipped it into submission. Any drummer could learn from him just by watching. Phil knows how to play - anything! Al Ortiz is a master bass player. He saunters on stage then delivers. Not many bass players can play “Kashmir.” Al rocks it all! Bernard Fowler grabbed the mic and welcomed us with their first song Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel.” When he sang the lyric “I love you so” - we definitely loved him. Jamie Savko was up next to wail lead vocals on AC/DC’s “Girl’s Got Rhythm.” No doubt about it - everyone got right into the rhythm with Jamie. Bernard again with The Hollie’s “I Can’t Let Go.” Waddy and Brett provided excellent harmony vocals, and we were reaching up to all of them not wanting to ever let go. Danny Kortchmar was then on board, joining the band to perform 2 of the songs he co-wrote “Dirty Laundry” and “Cruel Twist.” If you’ve been following my emails, you know Waddy is part of Danny’s band The Immediate Family who have been performing live and recording. Waddy then thrilled us all with a song he wrote and has played for us before "High Maintenance Girlfriend.” What a great rockin tune! Bernard sailed through "Said I Wasn't Gonna Tell Nobody" a song recorded by Sam and Dave. But we’re gonna tell everybody about these fantastic shows. Our Southern gentleman, Keith Allison, came on next to pump us up with Elvis Costello’s “Pump It Up.” Needless to say, he did pump us up real good. Time for the audience to join in with Jamie delivering resounding vocals on Led Zep’s “The Ocean.” He came stage front and extended the mic into the audience so all could sing “la la la la la la la.” Did I miss a la? Ha! Closing the first set, Brett Tuggle left us mesmerized with his vocals and excellent keyboards on the Beatles “The Walrus.” Oh yes, we definitely were ready for another set! I’ve listed the songs from both sets below, and you know the second set was as thrilling as the first. One thing I need to make special mention of is Waddy’s solo guitar intro to “Kashmir.” All eyes on him and all ears delighted. I can never say too much about how talented he is. When they finished the night with “Rockin’ In The Free World” everyone joined in singing and promised we would keep rockin! And looking forward to getting rocked up by WWB again!
