waddy

Missing you all...... Monday 8/25/08

Note from Nina:

It's way too quiet around here for a Monday night. When the Waddy Wachtel Band isn't gonna be on the stage at the Joint, we all get a bit sad.

I just wanted to let you all know that the guys in the band miss our Monday night gigs as much as we do. How do I know that? 'Cause they told me! So, don't ever think that any one of the guys isn't there rockin it up with us because they don't want to be there, okay?

I don't have much new stuff to tell you. Except that we'll be back to rockin' with WWB on September 8 and 15 at the Joint. That's something to look forward to. The band members those nights will be:
Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Rick Rosas, Jamie Savko and Jason Sinay.
After being away from us for 3 weeks, I KNOW they're gonna be all smiles and ready to rock it up with us loud and hard. Well, with some softer songs too. :-)

The guys and I really want to take a minute to thank everyone who keep making these Monday night gigs so much fun over the years. All of you fans (like me) who show up and turn other people on to this great music and band...... big warm hugs and appreciation! Also, many thanks to John Philbrick and Charlie Wood for always showing up to take care of the gear - with big smiles and devoted attention to all the guy's needs. Thanks also to Mark Nathanson - our new sound guy who's fit right in and brings the sounds the guys are making so clear and bright to our ears. Of course, thanks to Barry Robinson, who's been manning the door for years and is always ready to greet people with a smile - and who sends out the email notifications of new gigs to those who don't visit our MySpace page. Thanks go to the new bartenders - Miles, Jeff and Rene - who keep our glasses filled and are right on the spot to get quenchers to the band as well.

I'm missing everyone soooo much tonight! There just isn't any place like the Joint on a Monday night. Fantastic band, beautiful club, great sound, and some of the most delightful people/friends you could ever find!

Miss you and see you soon.......

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint (Joe's Tavern) 8/18/08

Note from Nina:

We were all feeling very lucky Monday night 8/18 as we saw each of the guys in the band walk into the Joint. BTW....... I don't know what the club is going to be called now. The sign outside reads "Joe's" but nobody knows who Joe is! LOL It'll always be the Joint to us on Monday nights, but if you're trying to find it for the first time, just look for the awning on the north side of Pico 1/2 block west of Robertson....... and you'll find us.

As I was saying...... We were all definitely lucky Monday night. The guys were fantastic, rocking through some wonderful songs and enjoying every minute of it. True symbiosis - smiles all around. Everyone was movin' to the music - on stage and in the audience. Did I say we're all very lucky? :-D

Waddy Wachtel always not only puts on a great performance on guitar and vocals, but he also pulls together a great band and set list. Lots of love for our Waddy!

Phil Jones on crashing drums and Jamie Savko on burnin' vocals returned as regulars with the Waddy Wachtel Band. Al Ortiz came in from Phoenix to play thundering bass while Rick Rosas is still on tour with Neil Young. Jason Sinay offered up some incredible guitar licks and vocals, filling in for Brett Tuggle who's rehearsing for his tour with Lindsey Buckingham. Keith Allison gave us big smiles and wonderful guitar, vocals and harp on some songs as well. We also had a couple of special vocals from Blondie Chaplin, who's happy to join the band when he's not touring with the Rolling Stones.

Did I say happy? We got a short bit of the Stones' song "Happy" during sound check, and it set the mood for the night......... Happy - one and all!

Here's the set list:

1st Set:
"Jumpin' Jack Flash" (Stones) Waddy Wachtel lead vocals
"Shot Down in Flames" (AC/DC) Jamie Savko lead vocals
"Rover" (Led Zep) Jamie lead vocals
"Powder Finger" (Neil Young) Jason Sinay lead vocals
"Change Is Gonna Come" (Sam Cooke) Blondie Chaplin lead vocals
"Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (Warren Zevon) Keith Allison lead vocals
"Stop Breakin' Down" (Robert Johnson) Keith lead vocals
"Bitch" (Stones) Jamie lead vocals
"Like a Hurricane" (Neil Young) Jason lead vocals

2nd set:
"Eight Miles High" (Byrds) Waddy and Jamie vocals
"Monkey Man" (Stones) Jason lead vocals
"All Down the Line" (Stones) Waddy and Jamie vocals
"Lawyers Guns And Money" (Warren Zevon) Blondie lead vocals
"Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"Somethin' Else" (Eddie Cochran) Keith lead vocals
"Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" (Neil Young) Jason lead vocals
"Just Like A Woman" (Bob Dylan) Waddy lead vocals
"Sin City" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals

Other news:

Have you heard the new Kid Rock song "All Summer Long" that's burning up the charts right now? You might have recognized the music wondering...... where have I heard that before? Well, it's a take-off of the Warren Zevon song "Werewolves Of London" which was written by Warren, Waddy Wachtel and Leroy Marinel. Yes, the Kid gave writer's credit to Warren, Waddy and Leroy. Another coincidence: Stacy Michelle, who sang with the Waddy Wachtel Band for a couple of years, is a background singer for Kid Rock on his live concerts. Kid Rock's cd has gone double platinum 'cause of the hit song "All Summer Long".

"The House Bunny" will be released this Friday 8/22. Waddy wrote the musical score for the film, and he'll be starting the score for his next film this month. Waddy's also been working on some other sessions, and I'll let you know about them soon.

WWB won't be performing the next two Mondays 8/25 and 9/1 - SORRY! We'll sure miss them. But it looks like they'll be back on Monday 9/8. I'm still waiting for final confirmation........ Keep checking back - I hope to know by tomorrow.
Oh...... And Waddy said last Monday night that he'll miss our Mondays as much as we do for the next 3 weeks. It's true. All the guys love rockin' with us.

Here's a slide show of pics from last Monday's gig 8/18. It's not as good as getting to hear the music, but it's all I can give you right now. Come on down and see, feel and enjoy it with the rest of us.

See you sooooon!!!!

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint (Joe's Tavern) 8/4/08

Note from Nina:

The Waddy Wachtel Band was in top form last night - as usual. One thing all of us Monday night regulars know (and something you newbies are finding out) is that WWB ALWAYS rocks it up! I've never found anyone who's come to a Monday night gig being disappointed........ They just keep coming back for more... more... more!

I heard there was a rumor going around that last night was going to be WWB's last Monday night gig - it's not true! There will be rock 'n' roll Monday nights for a long time. Waddy said so!

Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Brett Tuggle and Jamie Savko really tore up the place last night performing some verrrrry hot tunes. Perfectly! I could write pages and pages about how fantastic they are....... and I have...... many times. LOL I'll just tell you some of the new stuff from last night and let you get on to the set list and slide show below.

Al Ortiz flew in from Phoenix to fill in for Rick Rosas who's on tour with Neil Young. What an incredible bass player! Waddy found Al on their gigs with Stevie Nicks, and thrilled all of us by bringing him in when Rick is gone. Yay!

Keith Allison delighted us with 3 lead vocals. If anyone went to the Ringo Starr concert last week at the Greek, you would have seen Keith join the band on stage there for "A Little Help From My Friends." We're lucky to have him as a friend.

Blondie Chaplin has been showing up regularly to sing with WWB, and everyone gets thrilled by his performances.

Billy Squier was an unannounced special guest last night. (That's why we say "You never know who might show up at a WWB gig.") Billy sang with WWB on a Monday night about 2 years ago, and it was great having him back. Two of Billy's hits were "My Kinda Lover" and "Everybody Wants You." Everyone wanted him when he sang "Everybody..." last night. Great rockin' performance. Billy also played lead guitar last night on "Bitch" and did a guitar solo on "Stop Breakin' Down." He hung out all night and had a great time. Billy was in town since he's been touring with Ringo Starr. Check the Billy Squier Fan Site for more info on him:
http://www.billysquier.com/index2.html

As Waddy said, with all the different performers moving on and off stage all night it was like a Variety Show. What a Variety Show! You just don't get to see and hear people of this caliber in a venue this size. How lucky are we!!!!

Special thanks to the new sound and lights guy, Mark Nathanson, for doing a superb job last night. Do you think it's easy mixing the sound for a gig where you don't know who's gonna pop up on stage at any moment? Mark kept everything crisp and delightfully loud.

Here's the set list, and more info and the slide show of photos from last night below it.

Set List:

1st Set:
"I Am The Walrus" (Beatles) Brett Tuggle lead vocals

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" (Rolling Stones) Waddy Wachtel lead vocals

"Pump It Up" (Elvis Costello) Keith lead vocals
"The Rover" (Led Zep) Jamie lead vocals
"Won’t Get Fooled Again" (Who) Jamie lead vocals

"Live Wire" (AC/DC) Brett lead vocals
"Down Payment Blues" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals

More info:

I hope you're not getting confused with the name change of the club. It's confusing to us! WWB has been playing at the Joint on Monday nights for 8 years, and put the club on the map by bringing in such players as Keith Richards, Robert Plant, Neil Young, Roger Daltrey, Adam Sandler, Joe Walsh, etc. etc. etc. Now it's gonna be called Joe's Tavern? I'd just keep calling it the Joint on Monday nights, but the new sign on the awning out front reads: Joe's Tavern. New people who show up to hear WWB might look for the Joint and not find it! Uh oh. So, I guess I'll have to refer to it as Joe's Tavern. Oh well.

Brett Tuggle will be away from us for a couple of months since he's rehearsing and going on tour with Lindsey Buckingham....... but he'll be back! We'll miss him.

Jason Sinay will be filling in for Brett at the next gig 8/18, and possibly other Monday night gigs too. I'll keep you informed.

Al Ortiz will be filling in for Rick Rosas until he returns from his Neil Young tour. If you're in the Phoenix area, you can catch Al playing with some local bands on weekends.

Gary Simson's documentary on WWB should be released soon.

Waddy Wachtel will be starting the music score for a new film.

Have I forgotten anything?

Oh YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! The Waddy Wachtel Band will be back rockin' it up at the Joint (Joe's Tavern) on Monday 8/18. No gig 8/11, but I hope all of you will join us on the 18th......... to have a great Rockin' time.

See you then!
