Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at The Joint 4/27/09

Great crowd and great music at The Joint last night 4/27/09 with the Waddy Wachtel Band! We missed a few of your smiling faces that weren't with us last night....... As Waddy says: "We'll know if you're not here!" So, bring an excuse note next time. :-) But..... It was great seeing some of you we haven't seen in a while - and all those new friends too!

Here's a re-cap for those of you who weren't able to attend and want to drool over what you missed - and for those who were with us and want to remember what a fantastic night it was.

The Waddy Wachtel Band performing last night consisted of:
Waddy Wachtel - Lead Guitar, Vocals
Bernard Fowler - Vocals, Percussion
Phil Jones - Drums
Keith Allison - Vocals, Guitar
Jamie Savko - Vocals, Percussion
Al Ortiz - Bass

The band started out hot with Jamie burning through lead vocals on the great AC/DC tune "Dog Eat Dog." By the time Bernard got up on stage to rock through "Down Payment Blues", no one had "the blues." And it just got hotter and hotter (yes, everyone covered with sweet sweat) until the final song "Eight Miles High." You got it........ We were all so high on the music!

Phil and Al were rock-solid, Keith took us up another notch (being the Rock Man that he is), and Waddy......... What can I say? The guy's so exceptionally talented it's hard to put into words the magic he creates on his guitar.

One word for the night? (No, I won't use the word "rock" again. :-) ) FUN!!!!!

Some other notes:

Waddy mentioned that he first met Keith Allison when Keith was producing the Ronnie Hawkins album "The Hawk" in 1979, and Keith hired Waddy to play on it. Great musical pairing! To see more about "The Hawk" check this page on Waddy's web site:

Waddy Wachtel was honored at the ASCAP Awards Dinner last week by being presented an award for his co-writer credits on Kid Rock's hit "All Summer Long." Also receiving an award with Waddy was Leroy Marinell who, along with Warren Zevon, co-wrote the song "Werewolves Of London" - which was the basis for Kid Rock's melody and guitar riff on "All Summer Long." Warren was truly missed at the ceremony - It would have been wonderful to have him there. Love Warren!

Bernard Fowler will be performing at The Knitting Factory in New York City on May 19, 2009. He's bringing along his friends and co-horts for the gig - Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones and Al Ortiz. This will be a great treat for you East Coasters - don't miss it! Bernard Fowler and Friends will be performing some of the tunes from his cd "Friends With Privileges" as well as some other Classic Rock tunes.

When is the next Waddy Wachtel Band gig at The Joint??????
We don't know yet. Sorry. There will definitely be no gigs on May 4, 11 or 18, but we're hoping for a gig or two in May - Possibly a Friday night! May marks not only the 9th year anniversary of the band playing at The Joint, but May 24 is also Waddy's birthday. Time to celebrate!!!!!!
