Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint 4/28/08

Note from Nina:

They did it again!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, the Waddy Wachtel Band burned up the Joint last night 4/28, after being away for 3 weeks. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was definitely not feeling up to par without getting rocked by Waddy Wachtel, Phil Jones, Rick Rosas, Brett Tuggle and Jamie Savko for 3 whole weeks. Now I'm humming like a finely tuned instrument.

Waddy always chooses songs that make us jump up and say: Now, that's what Rock n Roll is all about! And when the guys plug in and start wailing, everyone in the place has happy ears, big smiles, and moving bodies. Doesn't get much better than that.

Waddy kicked out some verrrry delicious guitar solos and vocals. Brett played some wonderful keyboard solos and showed what a talented vocalist he is. Phil kept churning out that rockin beat on his drums. Rick let his fingers dance like lightning on his bass strings - thunder. And I'm always amazed at how Jamie can hit those notes with his voice and keep them sustained in perfect pitch. Put them all together and what do you get? The best night of music anyone could wish for. Lucky us!!!!

Bernard Fowler (long-time background singer for the Rolling Stones and part-time member of the Waddy Wachtel Band) thrilled us with his lead vocals on the first 2 songs of the second set. It's so much fun when Bernard comes out from the background of the Stones tours and lets it all come out in our small Joint venue.

Set List:

1st Set:
"I Wanna Be Your Man" (Beatles) Waddy Wachtel, Brett Tuggle, Jamie Savko harmony vocals
"Till the End of the Day" (Kinks) Brett lead vocals
"Girl's Got Rhythm" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"The Rover" (Led Zep) Jamie lead vocals
"Just Walk Away Renee" (Left Banke) Waddy, Jamie and Brett harmony vocals
"Trampled Underfoot" (Led Zep) Brett lead vocals
"All Down the Line" (Stones) Jamie lead vocals
"Dog Eat Dog" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"Eight Miles High" (Byrds) Waddy and Jamie harmony vocals

2nd Set:
"You Got Me Rockin'" (Stones) Bernard Fowler lead vocals
"Heroes" (David Bowie) Bernard lead vocals
"Rocks Off" (Stones) Waddy and Jamie vocals
"Shot Down in Flames" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals
"Just Like a Woman" (Bob Dylan) Waddy lead vocals
"Honky Tonk Woman" (Stones) Jamie lead vocals
"Down Payment Blues" (AC/DC) Jamie lead vocals

Other notes:

After Waddy got all our hearts pumping with his electrifying fingers running up and down the neck of his guitar, he gave us even more to be happy about. He told us the Waddy Wachtel Band will be at the Joint every Monday in May. Yay! So, those of you who couldn't make it last night or who might be in town in May can count on a Rockin' Monday at the Joint. Come on down!

We're also going to be having some special celebrations in May...... Check back here and I'll tell you what they are.

Brett Tuggle has been in the studio working on a session tape with Lindsey Buckingham, and the new CD should be released later this year.

Sorry...... No pics from last night's gig. I was too busy dancin' to hold a camera!

Thanks to all you incredible Rockers who showed up last night and made the night so much more fun by being there with us.

See you next Monday 5/5!

Rockin' love-
Nina

Waddy Wachtel in PA with Stevie Nicks 4/18/08

Yes, rockers, we're all missing getting electrified on Monday nights at the Joint by Waddy, Phil Rick, Brett and Jamie while Waddy is on the East Coast doing some concerts with Stevie Nicks. But the Waddy Wachtel Band will be back Rockin It with us on Monday April 28. Yay!

In the mean time, here's parts of a review of Stevie's gig last night in PA with a few photos of her with Waddy. If anyone has other pics of Waddy at that gig, feel free to post them.

See ya soon!!!!

Stevie Nicks radiant at Sovereign Center in Reading

In fact, the entire concert — radiant with what looked like a digitized Joshua Light Show from the old Fillmore East in New York, Nicks' trusty seven-piece band led by guitarist Waddy Wachtel and lush, arching cascades of backing vocals — was itself a tribute to what we've been listening to for a generation.

Ricky Peterson's soulful Hammond B3 joined drummer Jim Paxson and percussionist Lenny Castro in laying the foundation for Wachtel, who skulked and stalked about the stage, his Les Paul Gibson slung low over his shoulder. Wachtel's fiery runs snaked around the pulsing undertow.

In "Rhiannon," from Fleetwood Mac's first album, the band's down-tempo opening only added to the Pre-Raphaelite mystery of the woman who becomes the darkness.
Wachtel pulled out the Fender for this one, his solo riffs pinging against Darrel Smith's thundering grand piano, Al Ortiz' bass and the frantic drummers.

Review: Waddy Wachtel Band at the Joint 4/7/08

Well, Rockers, I don’t have many words for Monday night’s Waddy Wachtel Band concert......... except for......... Awesome! Wow! Burnin! Killer! Perfect!!!!!

I’m still electrified from the gig. Anyone who was there felt it....... And you all told me how wonderful it was. Neil McDonald did a great job mixing the sound, and all the instruments and vocals were vivid, loud and clear. With a band as talented as WWB, we want to hear it ALL!

Waddy, Phil, Rick, Brett and Jamie were fabulous. There’s no words for how they make you feel...... You’ve got to experience it. And you’ll always be asking for more.

And......... WWB’s dancin’ girls were right up close to the stage, looking up adoringly and dancin’ our butts off! Even the guys couldn’t stand still....... Dancin’ and smiling one and all. What fun!

Okay, short review this time. Look for the slide show of pics from the gig under the Set List. We’ll be Rockin’ it up at the Joint next time on Monday 4/28. Yeah, we’ll miss the guys while Waddy is off with Stevie Nicks for a few East Coast gigs, but we’ll all be there when they get back. Yeah!

Rockin’ love-
Nina
