![]() Reviews and News - 2006 What a great line-up of top notch performers at the Joint last night! Thank you all for rockin' me to..........Bliss! Yup. During the sound check, I was wondering who that guy was up there setting up a silver Fender and foot pedals. Joe Walsh! Cool! He's played with WWB before at TJ, but this was the first time I got to see him there. What a great surprise - you never know who'll show up. Stacy Michelle also showed up to sing a couple songs with Joe - she was on his last tour with him singing back-up vocals and playing guitar. She might be playing some other gigs in L.A. soon. And she'll be popping back in at TJ occasionally in the future as well. It's always a treat to see you, Stacy - one incredible rock singer! Waddy keeps adding new songs for Jamie to sing, and Jamie nails every one of them. Everyone's mouth falls open after hearing the first few notes coming out of his mouth. Thank you so much, Jamie, for being there to thrill us every Monday night! Brett - what can I say about Brett? He is so multi-talented that it's awesome. Masterful guitar, keyboards and screaming vocals - all wrapped up in one warm human being. You're truly a "Live Wire", Brett! We'll miss you next week, but your fans will be plugged in and waiting for your return. :-) I don't know what it is about "Rolling Stone" that gives me goose bumps when you sing it, Waddy, but it happens every time! It was nice having Joe up there sharing some guitar licks with you on it. Damn, you played some hot solos last night! I don't know how all of you guys in WWB keep pumping out so much fantastic rock every week - but please don't stop! Monday, I'm in love! -Nina ![]() WOW! Where do I begin about last Monday's show at the Joint? You guys all blew me away - again! Each song was filled with so much energy, and so much talent up there on the stage - you make this girl very HAPPY. The place was packed, but everyone in the audience had their eyes and ears riveted on the stage. What a great bunch of people! I'm glad to have made some new friends and met up again with some old ones. You guys rock! Newcomer, singer Jamie Savko, had everyone's hearts pumping with his incredible vocals, and it's obvious he's fitting right in with WWB as though he's always been there. He and Waddy Wachtel did a great performance of "You Shook Me All Night Long" (AC/DC), and YES - you did shake me all night long. Thank you! Special guests: Stacy Michelle (who used to sing regularly with WWB) did 3 songs in the second set - and was she HOT! Hard to believe someone can be so gorgeous, sexy and talented, but it's true! We've all missed you, Stacy, and were thrilled to get a chance to see you again. Love ya. Jordan Zevon (son of the fabulous Warren Zevon) joined the band for a song in both the first and second set. What a talented guy! And such a sweet smile. I'll be happy to have him come back any time and rock us. Brett Tuggle will be back next week 11/27 and ready to "rock the roof off". :-) My feet are getting happy just thinking about it. We've missed you, Brett! Thank you, WWB, for consistently rockin'. There's just nothing that can match you. Monday's the best day of the week! With love- Nina ![]() We all had a great time rockin with WWB Monday night. 3 weeks is too long to wait between gigs. The show started with a song I don't think the band has played before: "Eight Miles High". What a special treat! Waddy brought in Jason Sinay on guitar and vocals since Brett is still out on tour. Jason did a great job of filling in, and we got to hear some vocals from him that were cool. Another newcomer was Jamie Savko on vocals. He did a rockin vocal to "Highway To Hell" in the first set. This guy can really sing! Hope to see him back again soon. Thanks for including him, Waddy. I'm going to keep this comment short this time. News..... WWB will not be performing next Monday night 10/30 as Waddy will be in New York performing with Stevie Nicks at the yearly Bette Midler benefit show "Hullaween". But they'll be back at the Joint the following Monday 11/6. Brett is having a great time on tour with Lindsey Buckingham and sends his love to all his friends at the Joint. Waiting for next Monday - Love you - Nina ![]() Thank you, Waddy, for telling us Monday night that you're going to miss us as much as we're going to miss you during the 7 week break. You always warm my heart. :-D Waddy said he might just play in his garage on Monday nights until we get back together again. A bunch of us were thinking...... Where is this garage, and how can I plant myself outside to listen? :-P I hope all you guys in WWB realize how much a part of our lives you are. There have been many of us who have been coming regularly to the Joint on Monday nights for years. There just isn't anything else that gets my feet moving like you guys do. We love you! I remember a few years ago there was a Monday night when only Waddy, Phil and Rick performed. The Dynamic Trio rocked! Waddy has a way of playing guitar so you can hear both rhythm and lead at the same time - how do you do that?! Of course, it's been so fantastic to have Brett playing with WWB for over a year now. Brett, you've added such brightness, energy and raw rock power! I hope you have fun out there with Lindsey, but remember we'll be waiting........ One big kudos I have to give to Waddy - on Monday night he couldn't get his Cry Baby pedal to work properly on Zevon's "Charlie's Medicine". The ultimate professional, when Waddy stopped the song for a minute so Charlie could unplug the pedal, he started up again saying: "Now where did I leave off?" and found a way to make the raw guitar sound like he was using the pedal! I gave him several deep bows. If anyone else is going through withdrawl for the next several weeks without WWB, you could do what I'm going to do. I'll listen to Waddy's CD "Ronin" and Phil's CDs from "Crabby Appleton" and a few CDs with Brett playing live along with his singing on Jason Becker's rendition of Dylan's "Meet Me in the Morning." I'll also be reading a new book "Hotel California" about the 60's and 70's music scene in Los Angeles (including some quotes by Waddy and a cute pic of him with Jackson Browne and Warren Zevon). Miss you all!!!!! Love- Nina ![]() What a great crowd at TJ last night - Rockers one and all! I dare anyone to not get happy feet when listening to the greatest band on the planet. Those of you who have seen them can only nod your heads with a big smile on your faces, huh? Yeah! There was so much electricity in the air as the band wailed. Waddy started the night off with his own song "High Maintenance Girlfriend". Waddy, we want to have that song on a CD we can listen to on our boom boxes! WW also kicked ass (as usual) on "Like a Rolling Stone". He thanked Dylan for writing such a cool song, but I wish Dylan could hear WW's rendition of it - with Phil banging on the drums and Brett sailing through such superb synth harmonies..... Taken to another level for sure. Keith Allison "Pump(ed) It Up", and Brett showed us how to really "Looooove" (Led Zep). We ended up at "Sin City" with no sense of shame whatsoever. The more we give them, the more they give back in abundance. Dreams come true. Bernard Fowler was milling about, but he didn't sing last night. C'mon, Bernard - we've missed you! Rick Rosas was also hanging around, giving a big smile as he watched from the rafters - taking in the glow while letting Angus Thomas whack his bass on stage. Love you, Rick! I believe Rick will be playing bass with the band next Monday after a hiatus from his CSNY tour. WoooHooo! Special Guest last night was Harry Dean Stanton - yes, the award winning actor who did such an incredible job in "The Rose" with Bette Midler as The Dillard's manager. I never knew Harry could rock like that! Just goes to show..... You never know who might show up for the gigs and blow your mind! Good news and bad news: Good news - Brett is going out on tour with Lindsey Buckingham October and November. Lindsey knows a good thing when he finds it. Lindsey's gain for sure! Bad news- WWB sill be taking a hiatus while Brett is gone. That means no Monday nights with WWB in October and most of November. :-( Damn! Well, get your rocks off while you can for the next 2 Mondays. I'm going to absorb as much of it as I can while I can to tide me over for the break. Unless, of course, Waddy changes his mind? Hint, hint! Phil Jones might be going out on tour with a band he used to play with - The Crackers - soon. We love you, Phil, and will miss you when you're gone. Those are pretty hard shoes to fill - banging on that kick drum and getting my heart pumping. As WW says: "Let's fuckin' rock already!" Yeah! -Nina ![]() For those of you who might be wondering....... No, the tree-climbing Special Guest didn't show up last night. Even musicians need a break occasionally! However, there are two more weeks of possibilities...... Anyone want to plant a palm tree at TJ? ;-) Preston Smith sang a song in the second set "Miss You" (Stones) (without his megaphone), and he was delightful. Well, delightfully rockin!. Thanks, Preston. WWB introduced a new AC/DC song last night "Love Hungry Man". Those AC/DC lyrics crack me up! Only Bon Scott and Brett Tuggle could get away with singing them and pull it off. :-D Since the show started an hour earlier than usual, the band and audience were more jacked up. Lots of energy, dancing, photo taking, perfect solos and superb vocals. Waddy said the new start time for the first set will be 9:30 from now on, so get on your dancing shoes a bit earlier to not miss a thing. You might just get Happy Feet. Thank you - Waddy, Brett, Phil, Angus and Keith for being there, playing and singing your hearts out, and bringing to the stage such incredible renditions of songs that make our hearts jump a beat. Sharing the glow- Nina ![]() I feel so sorry for those of you who can't see WWB every Monday night like I do - because you don't live in L.A. So, along with giving kudos to the band, I hope these comments I write will help the rest of you to feel the experience a little more. It was an exquisite night of music 8/21/06! Even though there weren't any "Special Guests", we had the cream of the crop with our regular special guys. If any of them showed up at another gig, THEY would certainly be "Special Guests" for an audience. Thrilled me to the quick when Waddy started the first set with "High Maintenance Girlfriend". I don't keep a set list of all the songs performed, but Brett sang a few Led Zep songs as well as a few Beatles tunes with a voice that rocked the rafters. Waddy did an exceptional job on "Like a Rolling Stone", and the band has added "Little Miss Lover" (Henrix) recently, which everyone rocks out to. Waddy uses a Cry Baby pedal on that song and really wails. Some band updates: The last date of the CSNY tour is 9/10/06, so we'll have Rick Rosas back playing bass soon. But we'll miss Angus Thomas, who sat in for Rick while he was on tour. Angus will be going out on a European tour with his band soon. Brett will be going out on a U.S. tour with Lindsey Buckingham at the beginning of October for several weeks. So, you Brett fans will be able to hear him somewhere near you - hopefully! We'll miss you, Brett! Jorge is back at the club mixing the sound, and that guy really knows how to fill the room with all the appropriate highs and lows. Thanks, Jorge! All of the guys in WWB are professional musicians and have been for years. What could be better than hearing these guys play Classic Rock? Nothing! Love- Nina ![]() You blow me away, Waddy! We all come to TJ to soak in the best show in L.A., and you always thank us repeatedly for being there. What a perfectly symbiotic relationship. I want to thank all of the members of WWB (and the special guests) for continuously thrilling us with such rockin' sounds. I've spoken to so many of the people in the audience who have big smiles on their faces when they're able to catch the gigs. So, on behalf of all your loving and loyal fans - THANKS! I'm especially thankful for Brett singing "Live Wire" and "Talk About Love" last night. Brett, you've got the most rockin' voice I've ever heard - and the harmonies you and Waddy sing together......... Ahhhh! Keith Allison really rocked out with "Kicks" - got me kicking my heels up (and yes, my feet are sore today. :-D ) Ivan Neville was a real treasure, as usual. What a bright smile - and all of you getting us to sing along! I can't wait till next Monday. All of us girls will be hootin' and hollerin'. Oh, and thanks, Dave, for the accompaniment on castinets - it's always a delight to see your warm welcoming smile. Next Monday!!!! Love- Nina ![]() What a great show Monday night - 8/7/06! The musicianship was flawless, the singing was over-the-top exciting, and the sound was brilliant. It's always a treat to hear Waddy sing his own composition: "High Maintenance Girlfriend". And Brett really wails on keys, guitar and vocals. Angus puts out a lot of energy on bass, and Phil on drums is like lightning. Special guest Peter Stroud (guitarist for Sheryl Crow and Don Henley) sat in for 2 songs in the second set - what a delight he was. Big smiles all ways around - band and audience. Thanks for the energy and fun!
